Trek Darcha to Lamayuru

Duration: 22 Nights 23 Days
Best Season: June to September

This is one of the classic hiking tours of the region. Here is a chance to hardiest trekkers14 to 20 km. of rough & tough and wonderful views every day for three weeks. You and your group will be led among western himalyas premier long distance footpath,

Tachuntse

which links Darcha, in Lahoul with Padum in Zanskar and Lamayuru in Ladaakh.At several points. You will visit Phuktal Monastry which is build under the huge cave,Sani Gompa,Mani Gompa,Burdan Gompa, Karsha Gompa, Lingshed Gompa and Lamayuru Gompa.You will reach at hight of 5100mts.. The path crosses several passes , Shingola,Perfi La,Hanupata La, Sengge la,Sir sir La,and Prinkiti La. As you cross old pack horse trail, shepherds track & ancient rout , the rout crosses river of Chandra,Bhaga, Tsarap,Doda,Zanskar and Indus.
The first day 8 hrs. drive to Darcha(3360mts.) over Rohtang pass (3978 mts.) the gate way of the Lahoul ,Spiti,Pangi and Ladakh./ zanskar valley.
We cross Shingola (5100mts.)to get in to zanskar . Many ancient monastries on the way Phuktal Gompa,which is built under the huge cave.and it provides the one of the fantastic view. Karsha gompa which is biggest in the Zanskar region . Enrout we pass shepherds ancient Gompa. It is the oldest in the ladakh with large library of the budhist literature.Leh with the panaromic views of the great himalya range. The trek terminates at Lamayuru.

1st Day: Manali ti Darcha 8 hrs.(3500 mts.)
By jeep through the Rohtang Pass.

2nd Day: Darcha to Palmo 5 hrs. ( 3900mts. )
From Darcha follow the trek until the last hemlet and then a good foot path. The pass through a spectacular gorge.

3rd Day: Palmo to Zanskar Sumdo. (4200mts.) 6 hrs
Continue on the left bank until reaching a second ford. Then go up the right hand valley. There is good path on the sides of the stream

4th Day: Zanskar Sumdo to Chumi Nagpo. 7hrs
From the camp climb moderate slopes to the foot of Shingo-La. There are some small streams to cross , the ground fllaters out and the path zig-zag through a moraine.

5th. Day Chumi Nagpo to Lakhang 7hrs.
Go cross the Shingo la pass (5100mts.)

6th Day: Lakhang to Kargyak
An easy descent to the camp site with the panaromic view of the valley.

7th Day: Kargyak to Purni. 6 hrs.
A short distance beyond Tanze, a bridge links to the left bank Monotonous going across morainic terrain. A slight rise leading to Kuru, Major settlement of livestock breeders.

8th Day: Rest Day and visit to Phuktal Monastry
The Phuktal monastry is one of the most spectacular sights in zanskar Phuktal belongs to the tradition of the Gelupas( Yellow Hats.). the spring that gurgles deep in the cave is still out of bounds to women.

9th Day: Purni to Ichar 6 hrs.
The trail that overhauge the Tsarap is tricky and hard going. Very good camp site an interesting fortified village

10th Day: Ichar to Mune 6hrs.
Cross back over to the left bank, then a gradual climb before coming to amajor tributary. Gradual descent down towards Reru and after that a quiet, beautiful plain covered with flowers.

11th Day: Mune to Padum. 5hrs.
You can visit the Barden gompa , a Kagyupa Monastry famous for its prayer wheels that are 180 cm. high.

12th Day: Padum to Karcha. 5 hrs.
From padum hesd towards pipiting and then a dusty plain towards river Doda

13th Day: Karcha to Pishu 5hrs.
Before Pishu , make a little de tour to see the longest hanging bridge over Zanskar(55mts.), it leads towards Zangla.

14th Day: Rest day.
Visit zangla the old capital of the zanskar.

15th Day: Pishu to Hanumil 6hrs.
Continue along the left bank, easy going some times along the river and at times across the moronic plateau.

16th Day: Hanumil to Parfi la- Nyste 7hrs.
The path leads away from the edge of Zanskar, up to the plateau. Then to the foot of the pass Parfi-La(3900mts.), a wonderful look out.

17th Day: Nyste to Lingshed 7 hrs.
Go across the Hanuma la(4700mts.). An easy descent towards Lingshed(3800mts.)

18th Day: Lingshed to Foot of Sengge –la 7 hrs.
Easy climb of 1 hr. to the Murgum –La(4100mts.). a gentle descent towards village Gongma (3840mts.) then to base of Sengge –la

19th Day: Singge – La to Photoksar 7hrs.
A rather steep climb to the sengge –La takes from 2hrs. (5000mts) and then walk leads to a broad valley. Descent towards Photoksar (3750mts.) a Splended village.

20th Day: Rest day at Photoksar

21st Day: Photoksar to Hannupatta 7hrs.
From the village agentle climb up to a large chorten (1 hr.) after that a long ascent to the sir sir la

22nd Day: Hannupata to Wanla 5hrs.
It is a Last day of trekking rout after crossing the 10th. pass Printiti- La (3400mts.)

23rd Day: Wanla to Lama yuru.
It takes 4hrs. to lamayuru. Visit the Lamayuru monastry , which is the biggest in the western ladakh. And built in the 16th. century on the site of a much older temple. The monastry is very well kept and famous for its many colourful wall painting. Then drive to Leh 124 km.
